Bank Holiday 国民の休日

イギリスは今週末は3連休。5月25日(月)が、スプリングバンクホリデーと呼ばれる国民の休日。イギリスでは、国民の休日をバンクホリデー（銀行が休みの日に由来）と呼びます。
スコットランドと北アイルランドでは休日の日は異なりますが、イギリスでは年間8日の休日があります。一方日本は15日!
敬老の日や子供の日は世界でも珍しいので、話題になります。
よくイギリス人に聞かれるのは、「クリスマスは祝うの？」っていう質問。そして「お正月は1月1日？旧暦？」

This weekend is a bank holiday weekend. In England there are currently eight bank holidays. In Japan there are fifteen national holidays! Some of them are really unique.
Second Mon of Jan is Coming of Age Day to congratulate people who become 20 years old.
5th May is Children's Day.
Third Monday of September is Respect for the Aged Day.

The Japanese people celebrate Xmas but 25th Dec is not a national holiday.
Japanese New Year Day is on 1st Jan.
